Class 4: Comfort Measures and Supportive Labor Partners

An integral part of prenatal preparation, this is a workshop for Moms and Birth Partners to prepare for early labor, active labor, and birth.

This class teaches you and your Birth Partner what tools to use to ease contractions and what positions to try during each stage of labor to keep Mom comfortable and to facilitate Baby’s descent. We give special attention to the time period of early labor, helping you identify if labor is real and what you and your partner can do together before you call your doula to meet you. Two expectant couples are featured in this class, learning and practicing the comfort measures alongside you.

Beyond comfort measures, this class teaches the Birth Partner empathy and communication skills that will be useful well beyond labor. We teach Birth Partners how to know if Mom is coping well, what to say to Mom to help, and how to preserve a positive dynamic and comfortable experience rather than feel like a "deer in headlights" or feel anxious about discouraging news or unplanned challenges. This class prepares the Birth Partner as much as the mom and is highly recommended.

If you are not hiring a doula, this class can’t be missed, particularly if you are hoping to avoid pain medication during your birth. Moms with doula support still benefit from learning tactics that she and her partner can use while labor begins and communication strategies for partners to use throughout labor, even after the doula arrives.
