Birth & Postpartum Doulas: What’s the difference?

Every expectant mother and family deserves support. Having a Doula by your side can make all the difference, but which kind do you need, and when should you start looking?

Every one of our Doulas, whether Birth or Postpartum, provides education, physical and emotional support, and will help you make empowered & well-informed choices. Our goal is that, by offering compassionate, nurturing care, you will have a positive, fulfilling experience.

Birth Doulas start supporting you during pregnancy and offer continuous, in-person support during labor and after. We answer questions, find you resources, and then attend your birth, where we provide physical comfort measures, emotional support, information, and help you advocate for the birth you want. We suggest reserving your doula as early as you can so you can start building your relationship and get the full value of the cost.

Postpartum Doulas work inside your home, helping your family adjust to newborn life, either during the day or overnight. We offer parent education, newborn feeding and sleeping assistance, breastfeeding and pumping help, and many other services around the home to make sure you wake up to a fresh start all around. We suggest you book your Postpartum Doula during your 2nd trimester so you get the Doula you want because, once they take on a client, their schedules are limited. Later stage bookings are usually available too, so don’t worry if you are a little late to the party. :)

Our Doulas work in hospitals and homes in Rockford, Belvidere, Dekalb, Crystal Lake, Elgin, and the Stateline Area.
