Comfort in Labor for Mom and Partner

  • On Zoom or Live at Dawn Colson's Photography Studio (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

This is our hallmark class about achieving a comfortable, smooth labor. It’s a must-add to your labor preparations, if we do say so ourselves.

Beginning with comfort measures you can start at home when the first signs of labor are underway, this class will teach you how to cope and how to work as a team with your birth partner, all the way through Baby’s delivery.

This class was created with your Birth Partner in mind. No more “deer in headlights” helpers! Your partner will walk away with a wealth of knowledge to enable him or her to support you, empower you, and advocate for you! (We even send out cheat sheets to give him/her ideas about what to say!)

  • Understand how your body’s physiology and birthing hormones work together to allow your body to do the work it was designed to do.

  • Learn the potential impact of medical interventions on labor and how to limit them, if desired.

  • Teach your partner what effective coping looks like during the various stages of labor and how to guide Mom back into this zone if she is struggling.

  • Teach your partner how to make space for your emotional journey and how to listen with compassion and offer support.

  • Teach your partner and you how to use our favorite labor tools alleviate discomfort and body positions to keep labor from stalling.

Our goal is always to help you create a beautiful lifelong memory of the birth of your baby, and we believe this class has helped many mothers and families have that experience.

This class is $150 for approx 90-120 minutes plus ample time for Q&A.

Six-Week Birth Class Series for Moms or Couples

  • Replay Link or Live at Dawn Colson's Photography Studio (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

It’s a fact: no one was born knowing how to navigate all of the things that come up during birth, and no one should be expected to be able to do so - that’s true for birthing moms and their partners. Even folks who are trained in medicine seek out information and support during their births. (In fact, about half of our mom-clients have medical backgrounds!) Many know first-hand the pressures put on hospital staff and anticipate how that might feel when they are the patient. Others are concerned that they will not be able to think clearly and advocate for themselves when they are tired, uncomfortable, and anxious.

Likewise, no spouse was born knowing what in the world a laboring woman needs and how to be everything she needs during a process that is dynamic and comes with lots of ups and downs. Why should our partners know this? That's a big ask, isn't it? Yet things go much more smoothly when our birth partners feel confident about their role, rather than feeling like a "deer in headlights" as soon as things get real.

Birth is one of those things you can't get a "do-over" if you don't like how it went or feel like you wished you knew more beforehand. We all go into birth with expectations of how it will go and how we will remember it. It almost never goes as planned, but it can almost ALWAYS be a day you remember with joy and fulfillment. It just takes some preparation.

This 6-class series includes the following topics. Birth partners are required for classes 4 and 5 and optional for the rest. The classes vary in length from 1-2 hours. After-class materials include the replay as well as handouts, partner homework, and audio and video links for additional prenatal preparation.

  1. The Physiology of Pregnancy & How to Prepare Mind and Body for Birth

  2. Medical Interventions for Hospital Births

  3. How to be Seen and Heard by Care Providers

  4. Comfort Measures for Moms and Partners During Labor

  5. How to Prepare for Postpartum

  6. Breastfeeding 101 for Moms-To-Be

This class will run every Wednesday at 5:15pm CST beginning 11/10/21 until 12/22/21 excluding 11/24.

Preparing the Body for Birth with Spinning Babies

  • On Zoom or Live at Dawn Colson's Photography Studio (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

In this class, we learn evidence-based stretches from the teachings of Spinning Babies for Mom to do throughout her pregnancy. Spinning Babies is a world renowned program that is utilized by doulas, midwives, and hospital nurses to help aid Baby’s descent during labor. Much of the effectiveness of Spinning Babies depends on it being practiced during pregnancy.

  • Understand how your pelvis and the surrounding ligaments and soft tissue work together with your uterus, during pregnancy and labor, to make your labor smooth and efficient.

  • Learn why it is important to stretch and balance these parts of your body to prepare for labor and how to do that.

  • Participate in the stretches (or watch live on Zoom), led by an instructor with Spinning Babies experience, so you can make adjustments where needed, ensuring you are doing them correctly on your own later.

This class runs is $150 for approx 2 hours of live instruction and includes videos for Mom and Birth Partner to watch at home as well as handouts about the material with visual aids for at-home practice.
